TUDOR dive watch aficionados stuck in a quandary when it comes to choosing a Black Bay model have now added another one to their ever-growing shopping list. This time, however, it’s another underwater gem from TUDOR that will tug at their heartstrings. The Tudor Pelagos, often considered the more durable and “technical” diving cousin of the Black Bay, is available this time in a 39mm model, offering possibilities for enthusiasts who thought the earlier models with 42mm cases were a bit too big for their tastes.
Launched in 2012, the Pelagos can trace its lineage back to the TUDOR Oyster Submariner and the Rolex Submariner, two pioneering dive fake audemars piguet watches launched in 1954 and equipped with legitimate underwater features, including water resistance to 100 meters, an external rotating bezel, and large hands and indexes. Years later, these features would inform the Pelagos models, which sought to share the hardened utilitarian and tool-watching spirit of their predecessors.
The new Pelagos 39 is the fourth model in the Pelagos collection, an impressive line that includes the first generation of Pelagos models (water-resistant to 500 meters), the Pelagos LHD for left-handed users and the Pelagos FXD, inspired and designed by the combat swimmers of the French Navy. As the name suggests, the Pelagos 39 features a 39 mm titanium case (a material characteristic of the Pelagos line). Three millimetres smaller than previous models, the Pelagos 39 was designed to fit smaller wrists, transforming the formerly heavy and masculine diving model into a versatile unisex sports watch.
Despite its slight, diminutive size, the Pelagos 39 wins big in terms of performance specifications. Its dive watch credentials are confirmed by its 200m water resistance and unidirectional rotating bezel with a countdown timer logo. The watch is also very clear in the depths of the ocean thanks to its monolithic luminous hour markers that emit uncompromising brightness in dark conditions. In fact, the Pelagos 39 is a diving watch certified to ISO standards, guaranteeing water resistance, readability and precision.
Driving the cheap replica watches is TUDOR’s in-house calibre MT5400. Although this automatic movement is COSC-certified, TUDOR improves the engine’s precision by guaranteeing +/-2 seconds per day, a step beyond the -4/+6 seconds per day deviation of the COSC standard. The movement is equipped with a silicon hairspring and offers a power reserve of up to 70 hours.
It is fitted with a three-link satin-brushed titanium strap, which you can exchange for a black rubber strap. Both are equipped with TUDOR’s proprietary “T-fit” clasp, which allows for micro-adjustments of up to 8 mm – ensuring an even better fit and comfort for the most adaptable Pelagos model to date.
